WD100/45 is a 1 1/8" diameter button with a slightly rounded back, while the front has a cupped center and a slanted - chiseled rim.
The colors available are Natural and Burntwood, & Plainwood ( which can be used by itself or embellished by hand-painting, as an example)..... the finish has a medium luster. Turned, drilled and polished in our factory in Brooklyn, USA.
Burntwood as a color is a kind of odd concept for a garment button if you think about it.
Someone a long time ago had the bright idea of taking an open flame to a natural wood button and searing part of it as a visual effect.
Maybe its the sharp contrast between the lightness of the "white" Birch wood contrasting with black scorch of the burning. ....but for reasons we can't and don't want to explain it is our most popular color.
Over the years we refined and made the process safe for the modern factory floor, but the results are still gorgeous.
Our clever little vibratory machine "marches" the buttons face up along a chute to a rotating bed that passes them under a shielded flame. The shield sculpts the flame to a narrow line and that's what you mostly see on the Burntwood buttons. A line of blackened wood down the center. We can vary the thickness of the line or as some garment designers prefer, burn the entire face of the button. After this process the polish shine is restored in the finishing operation.
